A Spring Day at Craigbank Farm: Art, Lambs & Community
Share
Earlier this spring, I had the absolute joy of taking part in the lambing tours at Craigbank Farm in Dunlop, Ayreshire , and what an amazing experience it was!
I was lucky enough to showcase my pastel pet portraits at the farm, surrounded by rolling hills, fresh air, and the most welcoming community. Between stacks of prints, cards, and bookmarks, I also had the pleasure of helping out at the tea tent.
I spent my time serving tea and homemade cakes, chatting with visitors about my artwork, and soaking in the beautiful surroundings. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about connecting with people face-to-face and sharing the stories behind my drawings in such a vibrant, community-focused setting.
One of the standout moments was getting the chance to attend one of the lambing tours, which was expertly led by Shona, the incredibly knowledgeable farmer and vet at Craigbank. I was able to meet some of the pregnant ewes, hear about the birthing process, and even cuddle with some newborn lambs (which was, honestly, the highlight!). Shona made the whole experience feel not only educational but also really personal. It was so great to hear her passion for the animals, and her warmth really shone through.
Of course, I couldn’t resist saying hello to Anne & Doris, the friendly Highland cows IRL, who inspired my drawing, prints and greeting cards - all available to purchase! As well as Briony and Lesley, the charming donkeys that call Craigbank home. The animals are truly well-loved, and it was clear to me how much they’re cherished on the farm.
I’m also incredibly grateful to Shona and Craig for kindly allowing me to display my artwork during the lambing tours. My pet portraits, including prints, bookmarks, and cards, were featured in the tea tent, and I had the chance to speak with so many lovely people who shared their own pet stories with me. It was such a rewarding experience, and I can’t wait to continue working with Craigbank Farm in the future!
Looking ahead, I hear that Craigbank Farm is planning more exciting events for Halloween and Easter, and I’m already brainstorming a few farm-inspired drawings that I hope to share with visitors. If you're ever in the area, don't miss the chance to visit Craigbank — it’s an experience that combines both learning and enjoying the simple pleasures of farm life.
Thank you again to everyone who visited my artwork and to Shona and Craig for making it all happen. I can’t wait to collaborate again soon!
