A Weekend in Aberdeen: Craft & Flea Market, Creative Vibes and Highland Views

This past weekend I travelled north to take part in the Craft & Flea Market in Aberdeen, and it turned into a wonderful mix of creativity, connection, and Scottish scenery. If you're curious about what it’s like to trade at a market or you just love seeing behind the scenes of an artist's weekend, read on.

Early Start, Road Trip Energy

On Friday 25 July, I had an early start with a 6.30am wake-up and a 7.15am departure from home. My brother-in-law kindly drove, joined by my sister and their dog Buster, who made a very charming travel companion.

Of course, no road trip is complete without a coffee stop. We picked up some much-needed caffeine on the way to keep the energy up before arriving at the venue just after 8.00am.

Market Setup with a Personal Touch

Setup began as soon as we arrived. Thankfully, my sister was on hand to help and gave the stall a lovely polished look. Together we arranged my hand-drawn pet portraits, art prints, greeting cards, and gifts, making sure everything was displayed just right.

We were all set up and ready to go by 10.00am when the market opened. The event was held in a beautiful space and had a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

A Lovely Day at Craft & Flea Market Aberdeen

The Craft & Flea Market Aberdeen did not disappoint. It was one of those genuinely good market days with a steady flow of visitors and lots of lovely chats. One visitor told me, “Your work is amazing”, which absolutely made my day.

I also had the chance to catch up with some fellow creatives, including a few familiar faces from other markets. One of the things I love most about being a Scottish artist is the community that comes with it. Meeting other independent makers and traders is always inspiring.

Evening in Aberdeen and a Celebration

After the market finished around 4.00pm, we packed everything down and met up with more of my brother-in-law’s family. We had a quick wander around the sights of Aberdeen and enjoyed a little celebratory drink before heading back. I was ready for an early night after the long day and travel.

Sunday Adventure Through Hidden Scotland

On Sunday we took a scenic detour through Royal Deeside, stopping at the Hidden Scotland shop near Banchory and Ballater. It was such a peaceful spot and the perfect place to find inspiration and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

Our journey home took us through the Cairngorms, with stunning views and a quiet, calm vibe that contrasted beautifully with the buzz of market day. We made it back to Glasgow that evening, and after such a full weekend, I was more than ready for another early night.

Grateful for the Support

A big thank you to everyone who visited the stall, shared kind words, or simply stopped by to browse. It means the world to me. creating custom pet portrait art that makes people smile. Looking for a thoughtful present? A gift card is a perfect option for pet lovers.

If you missed me in Aberdeen, you can still browse my collection of hand-drawn pet portraits and prints online. And if you're a fellow market trader reading this, I highly recommend Craft & Flea events for their energy, organisation, and friendly atmosphere.
