Bungo in the Back Lanes: A Glasgow Market Day with Pet Portraits
Share
My stall at Bungo in the Back Lanes, surrounded by sunshine, showers, and the best kind of chaos.
A Brilliant Day in the Southside
Yesterday was a big one in the best possible way.
Bungo in the Back Lanes is always a highlight of summer in Glasgow and this year was no exception. The weather kept us guessing with sunshine one moment and heavy rain the next but people still turned out in true Glasgow fashion full of good humour, curiosity, and support for local makers.
Face to Face with the Community
I had a stall at the Strathbungo makers market and I am still buzzing from the experience. It is one thing to create work quietly in the studio, sketching out custom pet portraits, printing cards, packing orders, but sharing it in person brings a completely different kind of joy.
One moment that really stuck with me was when someone walked past, spotted my table, and shouted "Oh my god." It was spontaneous and full of delight. Whether someone stops for a proper look or just glances and smiles, it reminds me why I love doing this.
A Highlight
A real highlight was meeting someone I had created a portrait for a while ago. I had drawn her mum’s dog as a commission and although we had only messaged online, we had never met in person. She told me her mum absolutely loved the drawing. It meant a lot to hear that face to face and reminded me just how personal these pieces become.
Favourite Designs from the Day
The star of the show on the day was definitely my Pint-Sized Tennent’s design. It caught a lot of attention and was the most popular print sold. Special mention also goes to Rosie and the Flower Pot card and the Nose in the Daisies print, which both drew plenty of smiles and compliments. It is always lovely to see which pieces connect with people in person.
Commissions: Bringing Your Pets to Life
If you have been thinking about commissioning a custom pet portrait, I would love to work with you. Whether it is your dog, cat, or any furry friend, I create portraits full of personality that capture their unique spirit. Commissioning a portrait is simple. Just get in touch to talk about your ideas, favourite photos, and the style you prefer. I will guide you through the process from start to finish.
If you picked up a business card at the market, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Whether you want to ask a question or start your commission, I am here to help.
Thank You, Glasgow
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted, shared stories, or took a piece of work home. Your support means everything to me. Thanks also to Strathbungo Society for organising such a lovely event and to Bungo Soap Etc for curating a beautiful group of local makers.
